Lampard told to play Chelsea star in central midfield
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been told to play Mason Mount in central midfield and not on the wing.
According to Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, Mount isn’t suited to playing on the wings because he hasn’t got a good pace.
“It’s really interesting his journey and where he’s going to sort of end up [on the pitch]. At the moment he’s playing as one of the two number eights in the Chelsea team,” Carragher told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel.
“I think players like that will always be better suited centrally if possible because they haven’t got the greatest of pace and sometimes when you’re out wide you’re almost forced inside.
“When you’re centrally I think it gives you the opportunity to go both ways. I think he’s a super talent.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea legend Ashley Cole insists it’s wrong comparing Mason Mount and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish because they’re different types of player.
“You can’t compare them [Grealish and Mount],” Cole told ITV. “The quality that Mason brings to not just this England team but the Chelsea team. He brings that energy, the willingness to run and graft.
“I’ve heard Roy [Keane] mention it a lot of times about that desire and work ethic: it’s a must and it is a standard. He brings that week in week out but with quality as well so I think it’s unfair to compare them.”
