Lampard: Why I Dropped Christian Pulisic Against Manchester United

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has explained his decision to leave new signing Christian Pulisic out of his starting lineup for the Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Lampard talked about Pulisic during his post-match press conference after the game which ended in a 4-0 defeat for his team.

According to him, he elected to ease Christian Pulisic into the starting XI following his move from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Frank Lampard further said that the situation involving Christian Pulisic led him to field both Mason Mount and Ross Barkley ahead of the American international against Manchester United.

The Chelsea legend said that both Mason Mount and Ross Barkley merited their place in the starting XI for the Manchester United game after a strong preseason from both players.

Chelsea were 1-0 down against Manchester United through a Marcus Rashford penalty before Pulisic was introduced as a 58th-minute substitute for Ross Barkley, but he couldn’t do much to affect the game.

Hosts Manchester United went on to score three goals thereby recording an emphatic victory over the Stamford Bridge outfit.
