“Marina warned me & I regret it”: Former Chelsea manager reveals after latest club decision

Maurizio Sarri is back from his yearlong sabbatical, as he has now been employed by Serie A side Lazio.

After Antonio Conte’s era, Chelsea signed Maurizio Sarri as manager, and his work at Napoli excited the Chelsea board. Sarri’s main task would be to bring exciting football to Stamford Bridge and also silverware.

After one season at Chelsea where he won the Europa League, Sarri was keen on leaving Chelsea for Italy, and was given the Juventus job.

Sarri spent only a season in charge of Juventus before being sacked, and he has now admitted he made a mistake to leave Chelsea. He also revealed how Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia urged him to remain at the club.

Sarri told Sport Italia journalist Alfredo Pedulla in a recent interview: “I had more fun at Napoli [than Juventus]. And [also] the last few months at Chelsea.

“At Chelsea I made a sensational mistake, that of wanting to return to Italy at all costs. Marina stonewalled me to leave Chelsea, I had this desire to return to Italy.”

“[The Scudetto at Juve] was taken for granted. On the outside, but I have to say also on the inside. We won a Scudetto without celebrating it, everyone dined on their own. […] A team that has been in the league for 8 years can take everything for granted, but in football it is never like that.”
