Marseille set to join race for 8-goals in 14-games Chelsea forward

Marseille have reportedly emerged as the latest team to take an interest in Chelsea experienced forward Olivier Giroud.

Having recently taken his tally for the current campaign to eight goals, the 34-year-old currently finds himself as first-choice attacker at Stamford Bridge.

However, the France international is out of deal in the summer, a situation which inevitably leaves the veteran forward being linked with a switch elsewhere.

According to the report on Le 10 Sport, Ligue 1 giants. Marseille are ready to make an offer for the World Cup winning attacker during the winter transfer window.

Andre Villas-Boas’s side are currently in contention for the Ligue 1 trophy, sitting five points adrift of leaders Lille with two games in hand.

The report claims that Marseille are only outsiders to secure services of Olivier Giroud, despite other reports claiming that AC Milan and Inter Milan are also eyeing a move for his signature.

In other news, Chelsea are allegedly on alert for the potential transfer of Real Madrid star Raphael Varane as no negotiations have yet taken place over a new deal for him at the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.

According to a recent report from Spanish media outlet Don Balon, this has sparked the interest of the Blues in particular, with manager Frank Lampard wants to make changes to his squad, with defence a clear department of weakness at Stamford Bridge right now.

Chelsea had the worst defensive record of any team in the top half of the PL table last season, and although things have improved slightly this campaign, few could argue against the case for landing a top centre-back like Varane.
