Maurizio Sarri gives important Alvaro Morata injury update

We don’t know how bad Alvaro Morata’s injury yet, but there are already thoughts about how it could affect this transfer window if it’s a bad one.

First of all, any chance of selling the forward in the upcoming window would obviously be scuppered if he has anything more than a minor problem.

Secondly, a bad problem for the striker would mean that we would absolutely need to bring in a backup for Olivier Giroud.

That might mean a big money transfer, it might mean another veteran brought in on the cheap as happened with Giroud himself last year, or it might mean a loan terminated to strengthen the squad.

It’s always hard to be exactly sure which deals have recall clauses in as the club doesn’t confirm these things,

but Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi would be the obvious top options.

Or perhaps a player in the academy is ready to step up?
