“My Chelsea” – Jose Mourinho made clear Chelsea return amid Pochettino sack plan

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has previously made it clear that he would never rule out the possibility of stepping into the Stamford Bridge hot seat one more time.

Mauricio Pochettino may have come under fire from Chelsea fans at the weekend, but Todd Boehly reportedly has no plans to sack the Blues’ beleaguered head coach.

Pochettino, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham, was appointed at Stamford Bridge in the summer and has failed to improve the fortunes of a club who not only disappointed last season but also splurged a load of cash in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea slumped to 11th in the Premier League standings as a result of their chastening 4-2 loss at home to Wolves on Sunday and some of the Blues’ disillusioned fans reacted by signing the name of former boss Jose Mourinho.

The name of Mourinho, 61, is still revered at Stamford Bridge after two separate spells with the club and the Portuguese coach is currently unattached after being sacked by AS Roma last month.

It seems highly unlikely that the current Chelsea hierarchy would consider bringing him back to England for a third spell – even though Mourinho has previously implied that he would be open to another crack at the job.

Speaking last year, Mourinho said: “If you ask me do I have somebody that I would love to take over from ‘my Chelsea’ let’s say that, yes, but I have but I close my mouth.

“The club reached such a level that it doesn’t matter who it’s with but Chelsea will always be Chelsea. Chelsea will always be big and my house will always be 200 metres away from the stadium so I want to keep listening to the sound of happiness and success. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be like that.”

Mourinho was recently linked with a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia with reports claiming that he had a ‘verbal agreement’ with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Shabab. He has since clarified those reports, insisting that he has not yet decided on his next move.

Despite Chelsea’s poor form, The Telegraph report that Pochettino’s job is not currently under threat and that there is no appetite within the club’s hierarchy to make another managerial change.

The Argentine is under pressure, though, to oversee a significant upturn in form and his position could be in jeopardy if the Blues fail to qualify for Europe next season.
