“Not Pochettino”: Eden Hazard finally reveals who’s the real problem is at Chelsea
Chelsea legend has revealed he cannot believe the rumours that Chelsea are even considering sacking Mauricio Pochettino after less than a year in charge at the club.
Pochettino was appointed Chelsea boss about eight months ago, after leaving his role at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentine was tasked with rebuilding Chelsea and helping them back to the top of the Premier League after they finished 12th on the table last season.
It has however, not been as straightforward as even the 51-year-old would have expected, as his side currently sit outside the top half of the table after 23 games this season.
Defeats against Liverpool and Wolves, which saw Chelsea concede a staggering eight goals in two games, helped intensify pressure on Pochettino, who was tipped for the sack by some outlets just hours after the 4-2 loss at home to Gary O’Neil’s men.
The Blues however responded to those reports by convincingly beating Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park to secure a place in the FA Cup fifth round three days later.
It now remains to be seen whether Pochettino’s side can take advantage of their new-found form to propel themselves further up the league table, but Eden Hazard has opined that the former Tottenham manager is not to blame for his team’s inconsistency this season, but instead, the owner, Todd Boehly is.
“The problem isn’t Mauricio Pochettino. The problem has never been him. The problem is the owner, Todd Boehly,” Hazard told CaughtOffside.
“Pochettino has a proven track record of getting the best out of young players, so with some time, he’s going to get it right.
“I can’t believe there is talk already of him getting the sack. Boehly must know he can’t just go on a sacking spree every few months, not just from a financial aspect, but also because of the instability that creates.”
