Reliable sources indicate that Sonia Bompastor, the manager of Lyon, will succeed Emma Hayes as the Chelsea women’s manager come summertime.
After a tremendously successful stint at Chelsea, Hayes is leaving the Blues to take a job in the United States at the end of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, According to The Telegraph, French legend Bompastor has agreed a deal to move to Chelsea, with her assistant manager Camille Abily.
Sonia Bompastor caught the attention of the Chelsea board, as the former France midfielder has been doing an impressive job at Lyon, winning France’s Division 1 Féminine title in the last two seasons and in 2022 becoming the first person to win the Women’s Champions League as both a player and a manager.
It will be a tough task to replace Emma Hayes, who has won the Women’s Super League six times with Chelsea, along with five Women’s FA Cup.
However, Sonia Bompastor looks like she can handle the job.
On the announcement that Hayes will take the US job, she said: “This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history.
“The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep.
“I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time so to get this opportunity is a dream come true. I know there is work to do to achieve our goals of winning consistently at the highest levels.
“To get there, it will require dedication, devotion and collaboration from the players, staff and everyone at the US Soccer Federation.”
