OFFICIAL: Eden Hazard has been awarded the number seven shirt at Real Madrid.
Hazard joined Real from Chelsea earlier this summer for a fee that could exceed £150million
Given the size of the deal and star attraction of the 28-year-old, speculation as to which squad number he would be given began to rage.
Hazard’s preferred number 10 shirt at Chelsea and for Belgium is currently occupied by Luka Modric, while seven was held by Mariano Diaz.
But the Los Blancos hierarchy have deemed the new summer signing worthy of following in the footsteps of club legends Raul Gonazlez and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the decision has not gone down well with some sections of the club’s fanbase.
Given Ronaldo’s obscenely good record for Real, it seems almost unfair to expect Hazard to fill his shoes.
