‘One back, 6 Chelsea players out’ -as Tuchel provides latest injury update
Ahead of Chesterfield at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has provided some injury update on his squad.
However, according to Tuchel, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kai Havertz and probably Andreas Christensen will be available for the game against Chesterfield on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante remain out due to Covid-19 while Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James are long-term injury absentees. Edouard Mendy is with the Senegal squad for the African Cup of Nations.
“The long-term injuries will not come back but Azpi just had a cramp, no injury,” Tuchel told a press conference on Friday. “Kai’s finger is pretty much ok to play football, our doctors will take care of it.
“Andreas Christensen was in training yesterday and hopefully there will be no reaction. We will have another training session later and hopefully the situation stays like this in the moment because that will give us some more options.
“Thiago and N’Golo are ok in terms of symptoms but they are out. Nobody else yet.”
Tuchel also admitted he plans to play some players that have been short of game time of late against Chesterfield
“We want to use the match to get minutes into the guys who need it and want it, like Timo [Werner] for example,” Tuchel added. “But there are still one or two more Covid tests to do so hopefully the situation stays as it is.
“We will show a strong line-up, show respect to Chesterfield.”
