“Perfect option to use because of his blistering speed” – Chris Sutton tells Frank Lampard to start Chelsea star against Real Madrid second-leg

Chris Sutton thinks Frank Lampard should have used Mykhailo Mudryk from the Chelsea bench against Real Madrid.

Chelsea suffered a 2-0 away defeat yesterday at Real Madrid, which gives the Spanish giants a comfortable lead in the two-legged tie.

The Blues host the La Liga outfit next Tuesday night for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

However, they will be without Ben Chilwell for next week’s for the return leg as he serves a suspension. Chilwell has apologised on Twitter for the red card he received last night in the 2-0 European defeat.

BBC pundit Sutton was urging Lampard to turn to his bench at half-time yesterday.

In particular, he claimed that Mykhailo Mudryk was the perfect option to use because of his blistering speed.

The 22-year-old remained an unused substitute in the European fixture.

“I think Mudryk needs to come on. He hasn’t had a great start to life at Chelsea but he’s super quick,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live (9:03pm, 12 April).

“Chelsea have been pushed back as the half has gone on and they need an outlet.”

In fairness, we can cut Lampard a bit of slack for overlooking Mudryk.

He was forced into a substitution when Kalidou Koulibaly went down injured early into the second-half. Afterwards, all plans went out the window when Chilwell was sent off on the hour mark.

We don’t know if Mudryk would’ve been used on by Chelsea. We agree it would’ve been interesting to watch him on the counter-attack at the Bernabeu, though.

For Chelsea, they’ll have to complete a massive U-turn next week to somehow reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Mudryk has been in and out of the side since he joined the Blues in January, but he could be a secret weapon up their sleeves for the second leg. It’s worth pointing out he caused big problems for Madrid earlier in the season when he faced them in Shakhtar Donetsk colours.
