Chelsea have announced the signing of 20-year-old versatile midfielder Jess Carter from Birmingham City, according to reports.

Carter came through the ranks of Birmingham and made her debut for the side against Arsenal when she was just 16 in the UEFA women’s Champions league.

Following her consistently impressive displays for the club, shes earned call ups to the U19 and U20 side of the English national team including the senior side and Chelsea have been quick to prise her away from Blues.

According to the club’s official website, the versatile midfielder put pen to paper on a three year deal with Chelsea, where she’s expected to walk straight into the first team of Emma Hayes.

Following the confirmation of the deal, she said: “Chelsea are the top team in the country and the potential is there to be one of the greatest teams,” Carter told the club website.

“It was the right time for me to leave Birmingham. I needed a new challenge, another push, and an environment that was going to take me to the next level.

“I think Chelsea is the place to do that.”

Carter can player as a holding midfielder or defended, and her versatility will certainly be useful for the London club.

She joins Lizzie Durack who joined Chelsea at the start of the month.
