“Please start him”, “He’s my baller” – Frank Leboeuf cries out on Pochettino to start using 26-years-old Chelsea star

“Please start him”, “He’s my baller” – Frank Leboeuf cries out on Pochettino to start using 26-years-old Chelsea star

Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf is desperate to see Mauricio Pochettino start one player soon.

However, Chelsea were able to beat Sheffield United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday, but Frank Leboeuf was not completely satisfied with the performance.

Speaking on ESPN FC, the former defender made it clear that he was not convinced with Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja while sharing his desire for Christopher Nkunku to become the team’s main forward.

Nkunku was able to make the bench yesterday after recovering from his injury, but Mauricio Pochettino opted against bringing him on.

The Argentine also decided to start Enzo Fernandez on the bench for the game and explained why after it.

Like most Chelsea supporters, Leboeuf is keen to see Nkunku make his debut.

Following the Blues’ win against Sheffield United, he said: “I was happy to see Nkunku just warming up on the bench. Well I so much want him to play.

“Let’s see how it works because for me, Nicolas Jackson or even Broja, Broja had a big chance to score three yards away, put it up to the stands, I want to see a proper striker. And hopefully Nkunku will end the pressure, but I want to see somebody else and I want to see performances and good performances from Chelsea.”

It would have been great to see Nkunku get some minutes yesterday and score a goal off the bench.

However, you cannot blame Pochettino for being extremely cautious with the Frenchman. He is just coming back from a serious injury and Chelsea did not really require him once they scored their first goal. There was no need to risk him.

They have had so many injury problems this season, with Reece James and Marc Cucurella the latest names to be sidelined. The last thing Pochettino needs is another injury that could have easily been avoided.

Chelsea take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Perhaps that is the game where fans will see Nkunku in a blue shirt for the first time.

If not, then next Sunday should be the day when Nkunku finally makes his Chelsea debut. Pochettino’s men travel to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
