Pochettino told to thank £315,000-a-week Chelsea star for saving his job last night

Last night Chelsea put in a performance they had been flirting with for the majority of the season so far.

Amid all the doom and gloom, there have certainly been some strong performances since Mauricio Pochettino took the role of manager.

Nevertheless, recent results have seen pressure growing amongst the fanbase, with it almost reaching boiling point as far as his job is concerned.

So, it was ultimately quite shocking to see a rampant Chelsea team firing on all cylinders, with one man putting the cherry on top of the 3-1 win in the second half.

Enzo Fernandez’s superb free-kick put the tie beyond doubt, and his celebration perhaps sent a statement in a time where mutterings regarding his future have begin to come up.

Pochettino will no doubt have been feeling the pressure after the recent results, and reports had begun to state that members of the board had been left undecided on what to do with his future.

Fernandez saved Pochettino’s job

The Argentine will certainly have been thankful for what he saw from his countryman, although the fantastic performance went way further than just the goal he scored.

The former record signing has been under pressure this season after many had been left thinking they had not seen enough from a player who was signed for the fee he was.

However, he and partner Moises Caicedo looked to start putting that right last night, and absolutely dominated the midfield battle.

Pundit Roy Keane was amazed by the performance of both players, with him claiming it was the best the two of them had played since they joined the club.

Supporters will now be hoping they both can put in more consistent displays from now on, and Pochettino could see his time at the club extended longer than many will have believed.
