Portuguese star sacked agent after failing to secure Chelsea move

According to El Mundo via Goal, Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly sacked his agent after failing to secure a transfer to Chelsea last summer.

The 37 year old forward was keen on leaving Manchester United last summer. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner eyed a move to Chelsea or Bayern Munich so he could play Champions League football.

A move to Chelsea and Bayern Munich failed to materialise and Ronaldo eventually severed ties with United in November following an explosive interview that led to the termination of his contract.

The failure to secure a move to Chelsea or Bayern Munich saw Ronaldo sack super-agent Jorge Mendes, who had managed his remarkable career at the very highest level.

Ronaldo also reportedly sacked Mendes after the agent questioned some of his big career decisions, including his decision to leave Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was interested in signing Ronaldo last summer but then Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel opposed the transfer.

Ronaldo ended up leaving Europe altogether following his release by United, with close friend Ricky Regufe facilitating a switch to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr that has seen him commit to acontract worth £177 million-a-year ($215m) – the most lucrative deal in world football.
