Chelsea have opened talks with Tammy Abraham regarding a new long-term contract, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed. The England international has enjoyed a good breakthrough season with the Blues and he has bagged 15 goals from 34 appearances in all competitions.

According to Schira, the Blues have opened contract talks with the marksman and they are prepared to reward him with a seven-year bumper contract.

The 22-year-old is currently on a weekly salary of around £60,000 and the contract renewal would assure him around £150,000-a-week until the summer of 2027.

Abraham’s existing deal expires in June 2022. He was previously said to be holding out for a similar £180,000-a-week salary to Callum Hudson-Odoi but that was dismissed by The Telegraph’s Matt Law.

The west London side are expected to sign a top-class striker during the summer transfer window and Abraham will need to remain consistent to keep his place in the starting lineup next term.

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez have been linked with the Blues in recent weeks. Dries Mertens remains another viable option on a free transfer from Napoli.
