According to The Athletic, the Blues are close to announcing the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen with only the small matter of the player’s personal terms left to sort before a transfer can materialise.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is said to have spoken to the player personally, just as he did with Havertz’s international team-mate Timo Werner.

The Blues have led the race for the 21 year old despite interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and are reportedly the only club willing to meet the Bundesliga side’s asking price – thought to be around £73million.

Chelsea will reportedly pay around €65m (£59m) up front, before another €15m (£13m) in add-ons for the transfer of Havertz.

Havertz is one of the most sought-after players in Europe after scoring 17 goals in all competitions and providing 8 assists from midfield.
