For Chelsea’s last four games, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opted to start Willy Caballero in goal ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga but has Caballero improved Chelsea’s defence?
Arrizabalaga had the worst save percentage in the Premier League before Caballero replaced him in goal but Caballero hasn’t performed any better.
Caballero is still making the sort of mistakes Kepa Arrizabalaga made in goal for the Blues. His failure to keep out Bournemouth’s equaliser is exactly the sort of mistake that Kepa was dropped for.
Caballero has a worst save percentage than Kepa Arrizabalaga, so there’s no justification for leaving out the Spaniard and playing Caballero instead.
According to Squawka Football, Caballero has saved just 53.3% shots he has faced in the Premier League this season, the joint-lowest among all keepers with 4+ PL apps this season (also Claudio Bravo).
Lampard needs to be honest with himself and admit Caballero hasn’t performed any better than Arrizabalaga.
It’s time to drop Caballero and recall Arrizabalaga.
