Rio Ferdinand left stunned by £110k-a-week Chelsea player, says his passing is ‘unreal’

Rio Ferdinand can’t believe how good Chelsea’s Thiago Silva still looks this season.

Thiago Silva, who turned 39 last month, continues to impress at the highest level.

The veteran Blues defender has played every single minute so far this campaign in the Premier League, which in itself is a testament to his professionalism and work rate.

However, the most impressive thing is that he’s still performing like the elite centre-back he’s been throughout his illustrious career.

Chelsea very fortunate

When Silva joined Chelsea on a free transfer back in the summer of 2020, nobody would have predicted him to make the impact at the club he’s had.

The Brazilian star is now into his fourth season at Stamford Bridge. He looks as hungry as ever since Mauricio Pochettino arrived as the Blues head coach, too.

Rio Ferdinand, who’s regarded as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever defenders, is in total awe of Silva right now.

In particular, he highlighted that the Chelsea man’s passing is off the charts.

“The mad thing is that Thiago Silva is almost 40 years old. How is he doing this? He is taking liberties; it’s unbelievable. His passing under pressure is unreal,” Ferdinand told FIVE’s YouTube channel.

Magical Thiago Silva

Silva put in yet another eye-catching display in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal in the Premier League fixture.

The £110,000-a-week centre-half (Spotrac) frustrated the Gunners attack for large spells with his presence in the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

Of course, he’s got the leadership and composure from a player well into in his late-thirties. He combines that with an exquisite reading of the game and ability to make top tackles still.

We often see Chelsea play out from the back regularly through him or Levi Colwill.

Speaking via The Telegraph earlier this month, Jamie Carragher raved about the quality and longevity of Silva.

Chelsea fans should enjoy every minute they get to watch a class act like Silva still performing on the pitch because sadly it can’t go on forever.
