Roman Abramovich sends message to Chelsea fans following Lampard’s sacking

Frank Lampard has been sacked by Chelsea after just 18 months as head coach

Lampard was brought to the club just last year and enjoyed a first good season with the Blues, leading the club to an FA Cup final and qualification to the Champions League, which brought alot of excitement around the club.

But despite the fact that he had over £200 million in the transfer window to bring in new players, Chelsea have fallen well behind Manchester City and Manchester United in the chase to win that Premier League title.

Lampard took the side on a 17-game unbeaten run but away defeats to Everton, Wolves, Arsenal and Leicester and a 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City have cost him his job, and In a statement, Abramovich said: “This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, the board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as head coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

Lampard has been given alot of chances to prove himself at the Bridge and has failed on numerous occasions, so this is a decision that has not shocked many fans who wanted to see the legend get the sack.

Chelsea are once again looking for a manager, so they will need to bring in a manager that has won success, with Thomas Tuchel seemingly on his way to the club
