‘Sad news’: £195,000-a-week Chelsea star suffered a major injury ahead of Liverpool clash as Pochettino faces tough transfer decision

Reports have claimed that some people at Chelsea are hopeful that Christopher Nkunku’s injury is not as bad as some have feared.

According to The Guardian, club sources are hopeful that it will only be weeks he is going to miss, rather than months or any longer.

It was the only negative moment in the entire pre-season campaign when Nkunku was forced off the pitch in the final friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

Outside of this, Chelsea had gone unbeaten against every team they had played, something they had not completed since 2011.

The France International had been a very key part to their success, with him quickly finding his shooting boots for his new club.

He ended the tour of the United States with the honour of being the club’s top scorer.

However, it soon became clear that the injury he had suffered was going to make him unable to be available for Mauricio Pochettino’s selection for the game against Liverpool at the weekend.

In what is going to be arguably the biggest game of the first round of fixtures, missing arguably their best player from pre-season is going to be a huge blow to the Blues.

Now though, it has been claimed that there are still some at the club who are hoping that the issue is not as bad as feared, and he will not be missing too many games before his return.

While he is no doubt key to everything Chelsea are looking to do, there is now likely to be a huge opportunity round the corner for Carney Chukwuemeka.

Impressing in pre- season will surely give him the chance to go one better and make a statement to the new manager when the Premier League gets underway again.
