Sarri’s £70m plan for January will allow Hazard to stay as a ‘false nine’

Eden Hazard saved Chelsea once again last night.

The Belgian wizard was summoned by Maurizio Sarri early in the second-half against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

And in typical fashion, Hazard scored the winning goal of a rather drab affair at Stamford Bridge.

He struck in the 84th minute courtesy of a very helpful deflection, taking his tally to 10 goals and nine assists for the season in all competitions.

His claim to be the best player in the Premier League is certainly a strong one.

Sarri appears to be keen on shifting Hazard into a more central ‘false nine’ role, similar to what he done with Dries Mertens at Napoli.

It worked a treat in the 2-0 win against Manchester City and it seems the manager is ready to pump some serious money behind his philosophy.

Sarri is desperate to land Real Madrid playmaker Isco in January to act as the perfect foil for Hazard as a false nine.

The Blues hope personal terms of £250,000-a-week can be agreed quickly, with Isco falling out of favour in the Spanish capital after the arrival of Santiago Solari as manager.

Clearly, Sarri wants the Spaniard to play similar to how Lorenzo Insigne operated for him at Napoli in support of Mertens.

Insigne may be a tad faster, but his low centre of gravity, first touch and finishing are very similar to that of Isco.

It is then likely that Pedro Rodriguez will line up on the right to complete a diminutive yet dangerous looking front three.

Arsenal and Manchester City have also expressed an interest in Isco, but Chelsea may represent the most sensible destination for the Spaniard.

The Blues are moving in a positive direction quicker than the Gunners and Chelsea would be able to offer him a starting spot every week, unlike at City.
