Footballers are well known for having a betting side to their behaviour, and former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas was so sure of his penalty skills that he never thought it much to place a bet on it.
Former Chelsea youth goalkeeper Marcin Bulka has revealed in a hilarious interview that Cesc Fabregas had to buy Willy Caballero a Range Rover after losing a bet.
“One time in training he said to a keeper: ‘if you save my pen, I give you one of my two cars tomorrow’,” Bulka recounted.
“He didn’t save it, but another time he made the same bet with Willy Caballero.
“He said: ‘if you save my pen, I buy you a Range Rover’. Willy actually saved it.
“Next day there is a Range Rover in the parking lot, probably from the [19]90s. All windows broken, door is falling off, mirror is gone.
“Then he says to Willy: ‘there’s your Range Rover’.”
Fabregas has scored 15 of the 22 penalty kicks he has taken in his career, and Caballero would surely have been expecting a Range Rover after keeping out Fabregas’ penalty. Fabregas stayed true to his promise, but it wasn’t what Caballero would have been expecting.
