Some Chelsea players train inside Stamford Bridge

Chelsea players continue to work on keeping fitness levels as high as possible during the worldwide lock down due to COVID-19.

Most players will be lucky enough to have a bit of outdoor space at home to kick a ball around in, but it is never going to be ideal using their own gardens. Many of them have resorted to going out for a run in their local parks or deserted spaces, using it as their one form of outdoor exercise a day.

But Blues midfielder Marco van Ginkel has revealed that the club have allowed players local to Stamford Bridge to use the stadium to go and train in, which likely means better shooting practice, ball work and short sprints, which is far more beneficial to them right now. Also, van Ginkel has returned to full fitness once again and may have a part to play in the rest of Chelsea’s season, should it recommence.

As reported by Football Oranje, van Ginkel said:

“The boys who live nearby can train in the stadium. So this is ideal for me. You only have to train on your own, so it is a bit boring. But I also trained in a park and the field is a lot less there. It’s top notch in Stamford Bridge.”

And on his Chelsea future…

“We haven’t had contact about that yet, but other things are of course more important now. I will hear it when the moment arrives.”
