Stopper agrees personal terms with Chelsea; official bid prepared
Goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina of the Chicago Fire has signed a personal contract with Premier League powerhouse Chelsea, 90min can reveal.
The adolescent has been drawing interest from Europe for some time, as 90min reported in January. In addition to Atletico Madrid, whose rival Real Madrid also expressed serious interest, Slonina’s representatives visited with clubs from Germany and Italy.
But it soon became clear that Slonina would play in the Premier League, with London’s Chelsea eager to sign the USMNT potential.
According to 90 minute sources, Slonina and Chelsea have reached a personal agreement, and the Chicago Fire has been made aware of the development. The Blues will now formally offer the MLS team $10 million (£8.5 million), which is the highest sum ever paid for an American goalkeeper.
Slonina will continue to be on loan with the Fire should the deal go through so she can keep practicing with the first squad.
