‘That’s about £220m on the bench’ — Alan Shearer slams Tuchel’s latest comments after Brighton draw
The Blues boss Thomas Tuchel wasn’t happy with the fixture schedule of his team as Chelsea had to play Brighton on Tuesday, having played Manchester City on Saturday.
However, Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Brighton at the Amex Stadium, Tuchel blamed the draw on fatigue and claimed that his players are in need of rest.
Meanwhile, Premier League legend Alan Shearer was having none of it and claimed that Chelsea have a full squad of talented players to complain about fatigue.
Responding to Tuchel’s claim that his players are shot to pieces, Shearer said: “I don’t accept it. I’m not having that. I get that it has been a tough time for every football club in the world.
“They’ve all had very difficult circumstances. But he’s got a bench that’s worth £220million.
“Kovacic, Havertz, Pulisic, Werner. He left Mount out on Saturday, brought him back in tonight.
“That performance going forward was not a tired performance. That performance was a team that’s struggling for confidence and I’m not sure that they are all on the same page.
“I know they’ve played more games than anyone else but if you keep telling players they’re tired and they can’t play the amount of games they are eventually going to believe you.
“That’s all that we are hearing nowadays. You can’t have sympathy for a football club like Chelsea when he’s effectively saying he hasn’t got enough players.
“What about the likes of Burnley, Norwich, Brighton and Newcastle? It doesn’t wash sometimes.”
