‘The second man won it for Chelsea’ – Roy Hodgson reveals the man that won the game for Chelsea against Palace ‘Not Noni Madueke’

Crystal Palace head coach, Roy Hodgson has claimed that Chelsea’s 2-1 win against his side was unfortunate, because the Blues needed a ‘controversial’ penalty decision to do so.

The 76-year-old is of the opinion that his side could have won the game if not for the intervention of VAR, Chris Kavanagh.

Journalist, Ben Jacobs, quotes the Palace boss as saying in his post-match presser: “We can consider ourselves very unfortunate to lose to a penalty by the ‘second’ referee… we have to accept these days as coaches there are two referees.

“The one who is on the field doesn’t have as much to say as the one sitting in the studio…

“We lost 2-1 because there was a controversial penalty six or seven minutes before the end at a moment when we were looking every bit as likely to score the winning goal as Chelsea.”

Michael Olise equalised for Palace in added time of the first half after Mykhailo Mudryk’s early opener, and the game remained an open one for both sides until the 89th minute when second-half substitute, Noni Madueke converted from the spot, following a foul on him by Eberechi Eze.
