“They deserves to win” – Former Chelsea man reveals why Chelsea deserves 3points against Aston Villa after VAR controversial

Glenn Hoddle, a former player for Chelsea, feels that if Axel Disasi’s injury-time winner had stood, the Blues would have been the rightful champions at Aston Villa. Thanks to goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher in the second half, Mauricio Pochettino’s team rallied from a two goal deficit to draw 2-2 at Villa Park and earn a point.

When Disasi nodded home in the fifth minute of injury time, the west Londoners believed they had successfully stolen all three points. Benoit Badiashile, who appeared to prod Diego Carlos in the back before sending the ball back across goal, was flagged for a foul in the build-up to the goal, which caused VAR to rule it out.

Hoddle has no issues with the decision to rule out the goal, insisting the officials made the correct decision, but the pundit does believe Chelsea can count themselves unfortunate not to leave the West Midlands with all three points.

“I thought it was a foul,” Hoddle said during TNT Sports coverage of the Premier League fixture. “We’d come down from upstairs and we were near the corner flag there.

“As soon as it happened I saw him shove, I saw the foul and it takes the defender off the line of the ball, I think he would have headed it. That’s the reason why Badiashile fouls him, he knows that. He gives him a nudge and that is a foul anywhere on the football pitch. Chelsea deserved to win today, they were the better team particularly in the second half.”

Of Chelsea’s performers at Villa Park, Hoddle was particularly impressed with Madueke, who bagged the first goal of the night by curling Gallagher’s effort beyond Robin Olsen and into the bottom corner.
