“They’re going to Stamford Bridge”, “This is what will happen” – Callum Wilson predicts who’s going to Wembley… Chelsea or Middlesbrough

Chelsea and Middlesbrough face off again in just under two weeks with their League Cup tie nicely poised.

Chelsea and Middlesbrough are currently halfway through a two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final. Meanwhile, Liverpool are facing Fulham in the other half of the draw.

Championship club Boro, the lowest seeded team still left in the tournament, caused an upset on Tuesday night by securing a 1-0 home win over Chelsea. Hayden Hackney’s first-half goal has given the second division club a great chance of making the domestic cup final.

However, Chelsea will have the home advantage in the second leg when they host Boro at Stamford Bridge on 23 January.

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, 31, has offered a neutral point of view on the semi-final clash. He still predicts the Premier League quality of Chelsea to shine through in the second leg and for them to reach the final.

Speaking on The Footballer’s Football podcast, Wilson said: “It’s only half-time. Realistically when they go to the Bridge, you are expecting Chelsea to come out on top, 2-0. Not many do their thing at the Bridge you know!”

Chelsea vs Middlesbrough

We could’ve been looking at a very cup tie had Cole Palmer put away any of his clear goalscoring chances in the first leg against Boro, but it was an extremely rare poor display from him in a Chelsea shirt.

Our faith is still in the 21-year-old attacking playmaker to turn things around in the second leg.

Speaking via talkSPORT this week, Alan Brazil came up with the theory that Palmer didn’t clap the away fans at the Riverside Stadium because he was too embarrassed about his wasted opportunities in front of goal. We’d love to reassure the English youngster he’s the one Chelsea player that has earned a free pass this season because he’s been excellent for the most part.
