Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is weighing up whether to trigger the club’s buyback clause on Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga, according to reports in England.

The Ivory Coast international has been performing well in Italy, having scored eight goals and provided four assists in 25 appearances this season, and the Blues are able to re-sign him for just £12.8m.

Boga has spoken out in recent days about being open to returning to Chelsea. He spent nine years at the London club but was unable to make his first team breakthrough due to the competition for places in the squad. However, with both Willian and Pedro expected to leave on free transfers when their contracts expire at the end of the season, it could open up space for the 23-year-old.

Boga certainly does have the potential but it will be up to Lampard to decide whether he feels the player has what it takes to make it in the Premier League.

Fans on Twitter think Lampard would be wise to bring Boga back to Stamford Bridge this summer:

@NWolstenholme: This is a no brainier 👍💙👌

@cfc2608: Honestly this move is comming at the right time for him Pedro and willian might leave Lampard is ready to give youngsters a chance if they are ready to compete Ake Telles Boga M. dembele and one winger maybe Sancho/chukweze /Sane /richarlison & we will be sorted
@Ini_mens_44: Better than buying Sancho for 120m who won’t guarantee you 25 goals a season
@AsapMade: We need him can be the next Mane. He will be a good depth
