Todd Boehly ‘held talks’ with 142-goal star’s agent at Stamford Bridge – Fabrizio Romano confirms
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes in June to discuss the possibilities of a transfer to Stamford Bridge.
The Londoners have surfaced as a prospective destination for Ronaldo, whose future at Old Trafford is seriously in doubt.
The Athletic said that Chelsea was ‘thinking’ a bid for the attacker after the 37-year-old voiced his wish to quit Manchester United following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling are the only players to join the Blues during this summer, while other players like Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Romelu Lukaku have all left the team, making the start of the Boehly era for the club painful.
Marc Cucurella of Brighton is almost Chelsea’s third off-season acquisition, but Thomas Tuchel still needs more attacking help before the deadline in September.
Although The Athletic said last month that Chelsea had discontinued their interest, Ronaldo’s future at United is still up in the air, so a move there wouldn’t seem absolutely out of the question.
Chelsea may have lost interest in the illustrious frontman, but Romano disclosed that Boehly and Ronaldo’s agency had a meeting earlier this summer.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea had a conversation with his agent, Jorge Mendes in early June, so almost two months ago, there was a conversation between Todd Boehly and Mendes.”
