“Trying to avoid being sanctioned? MP slams Roman Abramovich again, after latest Roman decision

Recently Labour MP Chris Bryant had suggested that the ownership of the Chelsea FC should be seized from the Russian billionaire except he publicly denounces Russia president Vladimir Putin.

Following Bryant’s comments coupled with the outburst from the UK, Abramovich decided to hand over the stewardship of Chelsea to the trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation.

However, recent reports claims that Roman Abramovich is keen for peace to return to Ukraine, and Roman Abramovich’s spokesperson has confirmed that the Russian billionaire will try to help end the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“I can confirm Roman Abramovich was contacted by the Ukrainian side for support in achieving a peaceful resolution, and that he has been trying to help ever since,” the spokesperson is quoted by the Jewish Post.

“Considering what is at stake, we would ask for understanding as to why we have not commented on either the situation as such or his involvement.”

Russian film director Alexander Rodnyansky confirmed that Abramovich is the only Russian who reached out to Ukraine following their call for help.

“I can confirm that the Ukrainian side have been trying to find someone in Russian willing to help them in finding a peaceful resolution,” Russian film director Alexander Rodnyansky told the Jewish Post.

“They are connected to Mr Abramovich through the Jewish community and reached out to him for help. Mr Abramovich has been trying to mobilise support for a peaceful resolution ever since.

“Although Mr Abramovich’s influence is limited, he is the only one who responded and taken it upon himself to try.

“If this will have an impact or not, I don’t know, but I am in contact with Zelensky’s staff myself, and know that they are grateful for his genuine efforts.”

Meanwhile, Chris Bryant has slammed Abramovich again, calling the press release from his spokesperson a ‘Russian lie”.

Bryant tweeted: “This looks like another Russian lie in an attempt to avoid being sanctioned.

“If he’s so close to Putin that he can wield such influence, if he’s visited Putin this last week, he should be sanctioned now.

“Really? Doesn’t peace just mean Russia withdraws?”
