Tuchel and Chelsea Board can make four transfers ahead of deadline day
Chelsea new manager Thomas Tuchel must have taken note of points he has to fix in the squad after taking over the first game as manager. Tuchel along with Marina Granovskaia might get down in the transfer market so as to get one or more deals in the line. As the transfer window has only a couple of days to shut down.
Tuchel was confirmed as Frank Lampard’s replacement on Tuesday and the German was spotted taking his first training session on Tuesday evening. Within the next 24 hours, he was seen standing in the dugout watching his side ending in a draw with Wolves.
The former Paris Saint-Germain coach has expressed the feeling of joining Chelsea as surreal. The Chelsea board failed to display anymore endurance to Chelsea’s poor performance and decided to bring a change for the development of the squad.
Even though Chelsea made it very clear that they won’t be entertaining many signings in the January transfer window after splashing out all of their savings. The West London giants has been linked previously with sealing a transfer for Declan Rice and Erling Haaland. But Chelsea does not need to spend a big amount on the foreign players just like in summer so as to give them the lift.
However, As the 2020/21 campaign is only six months away to make an end. Players are allowed to make a pre-contract agreement with the Premier League clubs before making a move in the summer. If the player fails to pen down any new contract. On the other hand, clubs are free to offload the player in January itself if the contract between the player and the club goes nowhere.
This seems an ideal time for Chelsea to makes few required changes in the squad. There are few players who are available for January in a cut-price deal as they are yet to sign a contract extension. Hence Thomas Tuchel can take a sneak peek at the list of players that can help Chelsea save millions.
Jerome Boateng: Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for David Alaba in past. But he is closing on a move to Real Madrid as per the reports by AS.
However, Jerome Boateng is one such player who is having six months left in his contract and is yet to sign any fresh terms with Bayern Munich. The German outfit might avoid the idea of losing him on a free transfer and he may leave in January on a cut-price deal.
Boateng is also linked with a return to Premier League after he has spent a complete season at Manchester City. Chelsea could ponder over a move for the defender after witnessing few defensive fragilities in this season. Moreover, Chelsea would need another defender in the squad as Fikayo Tomori is all set to seal a move to AC Milan.
Sergio Ramos: Chelsea might give a thought to sign Real Madrid icon Sergio Ramos in January. The experienced defender has not agreed to fresh terms with the club. Suggesting that he might terminate his 16-year long stay with the Spanish giants in the coming months.
Tottenham Hotspur are the favorite to land the 34-year-old as Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite with the defender once again. However, Ramos is already living the last years of his football career. Chelsea would rather sign a young defender as a long-term option.
Angel di Maria: Even though Chelsea were able to sign Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz in the summer. But the club failed to hit the number of goals as per the expectations. In order to increase the possibility of making goals and decreasing the pressure on the aforementioned trio. Chelsea might turn their attention towards PSG winger Angel Di Maria.
Firstly the winger has been a part of Thomas Tuchel club. Secondly, he is available on a free transfer in the summer. PSG have not released any statement regarding his contract extension and the club might let him go in January if things did not work out with the player.
Memphis Depay: Another player who has played in the Premier League for over two years is Lyon striker Memphis Depay. The Lyon ace failed to match the expectations at Old Trafford before securing a move to Lyon. Chelsea might turn his attention towards Depay following his excellent form in recent season. Depay is versatile enough to play as a central striker as well as playing out wide in the attacking area. He has a total of 49 goals under his name since joining Lyon in 2017.
