Tuchel finally reveals what he told Roman Abramovich following UCL victory
Thomas Tuchel was appointed as Chelsea manager in January at a time of the season when things were looking bleak for the club.
The German was only given an 18-month contract, and under his watch, he has turned around Chelsea’s fortune.
Chelsea made top four, reached the final of the FA Cup and also won the Champions League.
It couldn’t have been a better season for Tuchel, and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was live in attendance as the Blues were crowned champions of Europe.
It was also the first time that Tuchel will meet Abramovich in person, and his message to the Chelsea owner was that he’s hungry for more success.
“I’m not quite sure if I can even speak out this, I’m not even 100 per cent sure but maybe I have already a new contract with that win, my manager said something but I do not know, so let’s check this first,” Tuchel said after Chelsea’s win over Manchester City.
“I spoke to the owner right now on the pitch, I think it was the best moment for the first meeting, or the worst because from now on it can only get worse!
“We will speak tomorrow, we will speak later, I’m looking forward to this, I can assure him I will stay hungry, that I want the next title and I feel absolutely happy. I feel as a part of a really ambitious club, a strong part of a strong group that suits my belief and my passion about football in the moment perfectly.
“So my desire is to go for more victories, my desire is grow as a coach, my desire is to push the group on the first day of the next season to the limit.
“We have work to do to close the gap, this is what I’m all about.
“It will be nice to meet him a bit closer. We’re in contact but not personal but we’re in contact and he knows what’s going on from me directly, now it’s nice to meet him.”
