Another highly rated youngster to replace Billy Gilmour in the Chelsea squad today

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has been ruled out for the next four to five months through a knee injury.

Blues boss Frank Lampard confirmed the bad news today during his press conference, meaning Gilmour will miss the rest of this season and some of next.

Chelsea are already without N’Golo Kante in the midfield positions, so they have called upon another young starlet from the academy, Lewis Bate.

Bate is just 17-years old and is a very versatile left footed player who can operate in a number of roles, including the deep midfield position where Kante and Gilmour have both been playing.

But as per Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella, Bate could well be included in Lampard’s squad tomorrow and he may even see some action with the use of 5 substitutes in the league now.

Bate often trains with the first team for experience and he is highly rated within the club.
