Tuchel urged to sign striker

Alan Shearer has told Thomas Tuchel that he needs to sign a striker in order to take Chelsea to the next level.

Chelsea spent some serious money in the summer transfer window last year and brought in the likes of Timo Werner to add to the fire-power that they already had at the club with the likes if Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.

But despite the fact Werner was one of the most deadly strikers in the game last season, the German ace has not managed to find the net in the last 14 Premier League games, which has become a real concern for the club.

Thomas Tuchel guided Chelsea to their third consecutive win in the Premier League on Sunday evening as they sealed a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, and he has been tasked of trying to get the best out of the £47 million signing.

However, Shearer believes Chelsea will be in the hunt for a top-four finish this season but feels Tuchel needs more firepower in attack in order to take the team ‘to the next level’.

‘He’s [Tuchel] given everyone an opportunity,’ Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

‘He didn’t play [Mason] Mount in the first game, he’s swapped it over with [Ben] Chilwell and [Marcos] Alonso, [Olivier] Giroud has been in there, he’s changed the system slightly. He’s given everyone the opportunity to impress him.

‘I still think they are lacking that top-quality centre-forward to challenge [for the title].

‘They’ll challenge for fourth but I think to go to the next level they’ll need a top centre forward.’

Thiago Silva is keen to remain at Chelsea for another season, according to the latest reports that have emerged in the media.

After deciding to leave PSG in the summer to seek a fresh challenge in the game, Chelsea made their move very quickly to try and convince the Brazilian icon to make the move to the Premier League.

And Silva, 36, signed a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge with the option of a second when he joined the Blues as a free agent last summer, a move that has been praised by many who believe that he has made that back-line alot more solid.

And according to The Telegraph, Silva wants to activate that option and Chelsea are expected to keep the experienced defender for another campaign, as Thomas Tuchel is eager to keep the player that he did not want to let leave PSG last season

Many doubted the quality of Silva and whether he could still compete at the very highest level of the game, but he has come to Chelsea and proven that he is still one of the very best central defenders in the game right now.

So if the reports are true and he now wants to make sure that he stays with the club, it is some great news for Chelsea, as there were a few rumours that a few clubs were eyeing up a possible deal.

Chelsea could look to step up their interest for Erling Haaland after Alan Shearer claimed the club need to sign a new striker.

Despite having the likes of Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the squad, Thomas Tuchel has taken over a club that has had problems scoring the goals this season, despite his good start to life at the Bridge.

Werner was supposed to be the man that would add 30-goals to the side, but he has not scored in 14 Premier League outings, while Abraham and Giroud are hit and miss when it comes to finding the back of the net.

That led to Match of the Day pundit Shearer suggesting that Tuchel needs to sanction the signing of a new striker in the coming transfer window, as he needs more firepower in attack in order to take the team ‘to the next level’.

And that means the club could step up their chase to try and sign Erling Haaland.

Haaland is one of the most deadly strikers in the world right now, and is only behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski in the games top scorers across Europe.

Hakim Ziyech has told Thomas Tuchel he’s happy playing on the right wing or in midfield, but is happy playinhg anywhere for Chelsea.

Ziyech was one of the big buys last summer that was signed by Frank Lampard in that £200 million transfer spree that he was able to spend, and a player that came to the club with a big reputation.

After establishing himself as one of the best players and most creative wingers in Europe, Ziyech was ready to take that next step in his career to test himself in one of the very best Leagues in world football, and chose Chelsea as the move that would make him a bigger star.

But The 27-year-old has been hampered by injury since his £33million move from Ajax, and fans have only managed to see glimpses of the player that has one of the best left foots in the Premier League.

Asked about his struggles in west London, Ziyech told Dutch outlet Ziggo Sport: ‘It has been a difficult first six months for me at Chelsea. ‘I began with an injury, came back and then got injured again. Things have not gone as I had hoped.

‘The pace of the game over here is much quicker than it was at Ajax. I picked that up straight away, and then I got injured in my first training game.

‘That sets you back completely and then it happens again. It was bloody annoying.

‘I am used to having my friends, and my mum, around me. Being without them has taken some getting used to, and of course the lockdown has made matters worse.

‘On top of that I’ve had to learn how to drive on the other side of the road. I’ve not had any accidents, but it was very difficult at the start.’

‘You know what can happen if results aren’t good enough. It’s not the first time I’ve seen a manager sacked,’ he added.

‘We’ll have to see what type of system he [Tuchel] favours. ‘I don’t mind whether I play on the right wing or in the middle, just so long as I can play. For me that is the main thing.’
