After the fifth round of the Covid-19 testing across all 20 Premier League clubs, it has produced one positive result, the Premier League announced on Wednesday.
Spurs have confirmed that a representative from their club (either a player or a staff member) has tested positive for the coronavirus ahead of the league’s return on June 17.
An official Spurs statement reads: “Due to medical confidentiality, the individual’s name will not be disclosed. They are currently asymptomatic and will now self-isolate for seven days before undergoing further testing.”
After 1130 tests in the fourth round of testing, no case came out positive, but the fifth round which had 1197 tests came out with one positive case.
Sky Sports have now confirmed that any player who will test positive for the Covid-19 this week risks missing the first game after the Premier League season resumes on June 17.
The season restarts in just two weeks’ time which means that if someone tests positive during the two sessions scheduled for this week will not be back in time for the game.
As per the safety guidelines, a player who is found to have contracted the virus will not be allowed to the training ground or any other club facility for the following 14 days, a period that includes seven days of self-isolation.
