Frank Lampard opens up and officially announces ‘he is keen’ to get striker signed with Chelsea

Frank Lampard says Chelsea are looking into extending Olivier Giroud’s contracts if the season restarts.

Chelsea have been reportedly eyeing up a new striker ahead of the summer window, with reports in the media suggesting that Frank Lampard will need a replacement for Giroud when he runs out of Contract at Chelsea.

Giroud is coming towards the back end of his playing career and has failed to agree a new contract, meaning the likes of Inter Milan have stepped up their interest over a possible summer deal.

However, Frank Lampard told Sky Sports News he wants the same squad until the season ends if there is a successful restart, and is hoping to extend the contract of Giroud at Chelsea.

“It is still uncertain if and when play will get underway. We have big players [out of contract] so that’s something I’m obviously looking at very carefully,” he told Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp. “The ones who are out of contract here have been great servants for the club, and actually have a lot of feeling for the club.

“Of course, they’ll be concerned about themselves, in terms of how training is now is and if the pre-season is a rush they’re going to have to make sure they’re alright. So, it’s going to have to be something we have to look at, hopefully we can make that arrangement can be made so they can stay with us. “I would love the squad to look as it has all season, but we’ll have to see how that works.”

Giroud is coming towards the back-end o his career and will not score you 20-30 goals a season any longer, but he is still an experienced player in the side that Chelsea need when the season re-starts up, so it will be interesting to see if his contract is extended.

The summer window is just around the corner, but Chelsea need to finish this season off and hope that they are able to get back inside those top four spots and get Champions League football for next season.
