Italian confirms world class defender to be a Chelsea player next season, Blues fans left shocked after Hazard claim made over Pulisic, as Cesc Fabregas raves about Chelsea star

Chelsea are all set to announce that Thiago Silva will sign a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It is no secret that Thiago Silva has been an amazing signing for the club since his move to the club last summer, and despite many people believing that he was too old for the Premier League, he has proven his doubters wrong.

He has looked as brilliant as ever over the last 12 months and fans have really warmed to his leadership at the back, which has helped make the club one of the best defensively in the Premier League.

Now Romano has come out and claimed that the club will look to activate the clause in Silva’s contract and keep him at the club for another 12 months, he Tweeted: “Chelsea have still the same intention about Thiago Silva since February: trigger the clause and extend his contract until June 2022, never been in doubt.

‘Positive feelings’ as Thiago is so happy with Chelsea atmosphere – he’s so appreciated by Tuchel and board

Silva is a brilliant defender and the fact that we want to keep hold just shows how important to the club he is, despite the fact he is right at the very end of his playing days at the highest level.

It is a smart decision from the board to hand him a new contract and keep him, his experience at the back has made the club more solid and with him next season, he will help the youngsters reach that next level in the game

Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea attacker Christian Pulisic will never reach the same level as Eden Hazard

Regarded as one of the most exciting young players in world football, Chelsea forked out alot of money to make sure that they were the club that secured a transfer deal just a few summers ago when Eden Hazard departed for the club.

But The United States international has endured an injury-hit start to life at Chelsea and has struggled to secure a regular role since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January, but he is starting to show his quality in big games.

However, Carragher feels that Pulisic will fall short of being able to replicate Hazard’s instrumental performances on a consistent basis for Chelsea: ‘I’m a big fan but I don’t think he’ll get to the level of Eden Hazard, apologies, he won’t,’ Carragher told CBS Sports.

‘Eden Hazard was the best player in the Premier League for four years and Belgian finished third in the World Cup [in 2018], he was the best player in the tournament – that is the level we are talking about with Hazard.

‘This is not me knocking Pulisic, it might look that on social media after the show from certain people. But I think we forget how good Hazard was.

‘He was my favourite player in the Premier League and for Pulisic to get there and to light up a major tournament for the US will be difficult.

‘Yes, I think he can have a brilliant career and he has a lot of potential but I don’t see him getting to that level.’

Pulisic does have a bright future in the game, but do fans agree with Carragher?

Cesc Fabregas took to social media to single out N’Golo Kante for special praise after Chelsea FC’s 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Christian Pulisic fired the visitors into the lead in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final first leg, but the Blues were pegged back shortly after when Karim Benzema lashed home an equaliser for Zinedine Zidane’s men.

The result leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night next week.

Kante, 30, played the full 90 minutes for Thomas Tuchel’s side against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, and his fine performance caught the eye of former Chelsea FC and Arsenal midfielder Fabregas.

Posting on Twitter as the game drew to a close, Fabregas wrote: “N’Golo has always been a big game player. Never doubt him. He plays for 2.”

Kante has made two assists in 27 Premier League games for Chelsea FC so far this season.

The French midfielder will be expecting to feature when the Blues host Fulham in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

The south west London side will then welcome Real Madrid to their home ground for the return leg on Wednesday night.
