Leipzig CEO opens up and drops hint that £34m-rated Chelsea target could follow Werner

RB LEIPZIG have hinted that defender and Chelsea target Dayot Upamecano could follow Timo Werner out the door to the Premier League.

Now Look, There has been so much speculation and rumours in the media over the past few weeks about whom Frank Lampard will sign in the summer, to help improve that back-line, to improve that midfield area, and a possible add a striker to the attack.

But there has also been constant rumours that we are interested, maybe even desperate, to sign up the impressive Upamecano, who is easily regarded as one of the finest young centre-backs in the game having helped RB become a very exciting, and entertaining to watch.

If Upamecano does not agree terms on a new deal then his Bundesliga employers may be forced to cash in this summer or risk losing him on a free when his contract expires, and even though Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is confident the centre-back will still be playing at the Red Bull Arena next season, he has hinted that he could follow Timo Werner to the Premier League

He told Kicker: “I assume that he will also play for us next season. “We are in good talks to find a solution to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer next year.

“It worked out with Timo Werner, and I assume that we will do our homework with regard to Dayot as well.”

Chelsea are said to have a good relationship with Leipzig – as a result of Timo Werner’s £53m transfer they recently agreed – and could use that to nab Upamecano.
