Revealed: why Barcelona are unhappy with Chelsea after beating Atletico Madrid twice

Chelsea knocked Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League on Wednesday night, winning 3-0 on aggregate.

While Chelsea celebrated the victory over Atletico Madrid, Spanish club Barcelona were disappointed with Atletico Madrid’s Champions League exit.

According to The Sun, Barcelona missed out on a £1.7million bonus for Luis Suarez after Atletico Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League.

Barcelona sold Suarez to Atletico Madrid for just £5.5million last summer and were due to receive an extra £1.7m if Suarez helped Diego Simeone’s side into the last eight in Europe.

Chelsea’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid means Barcelona – who are currently financially strapped for cash – will no longer receive the additional fee.

Suarez was substituted after less than an hour against Chelsea following an unimpressive display.

The Uruguayan striker also failed to score in any of his six Champions League games this season.
