REVEALED: Why Billy Gilmour could start ahead of Jorginho against Aston Villa

Chelsea will return to action to face Aston Villa in the Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon, and it’s the Blues first game since the hiatus from football that lasted up to three months.

Just before the hiatus, one man that was in top form for Chelsea was Billy Gilmour, as the then 18-year-old won back to back man of the match awards for his performances against Liverpool and Everton, where he bossed the middle of the park.

Frank Lampard may afford Gilmour that opportunity to impress yet again, as Jorginho may be unavailable for the Aston Villa clash.

Jorginho remains suspended after having picked up 10 yellow cards before the suspension of the season. The Blues’ vice-captain will serve the second of his two-game suspension against Aston Villa on Sunday, having served the first ban against Everton, where Gilmour starred in a 4-0 win against the Toffees.

One would wonder how Frank Lampard’s first team would look like in our first game after the restart. We might not notice any difference in the defence and attack, but the midfield is where the battle would really be.

Would the boss go with a trio of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Billy Gilmour, or would there be a place for Mason Mount in midfield rather than in attack, or would he bring in Ruben Loftus-Cheek who has been impressing in training? All these will be answered on Sunday afternoon.

With eight games to go, there are just eight points separating the Blues in fourth and Arsenal in ninth, with Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield United and Tottenham all in the hunt for Champions League qualification.
