£150k-a-week Chelsea star ‘fears’ after Nkunku deal at Stamford Bridge set to be completed

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz is most in danger of losing his starting position if RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku is successful in moving to Stamford Bridge next summer.

In the summer transfer window, the Blues spent more than £250 million bolstering their roster, but negotiations for new contracts are already underway in west London.

According to The Athletic, the 24-year-old has signed a pre-contract agreement with Chelsea and will join the club in the summer of 2023.

A £53 million release clause was written into the player’s contract, but according to the report, chairman Todd Boehly has agreed to pay Leipzig more.

Nkunku had previously been reported to have been to Frankfurt in September for a Chelsea physical with an eye toward a potential move to west London by BILD reporter Christian Falk.

Meanwhile, Journalist Dean Jones has previously told GiveMeSport that ‘everything is in place’ for the eight-cap France international to complete his move to Chelsea and that the transfer going through is a ‘safe bet’.

Phillips has claimed that, if Nkunku does arrive next summer, it will likely be Havertz fighting for his spot in Graham Potter’s side.

The German needs to show more consistency in his game if he is to stave off competition from the exciting attacker next season, according to the journalist.

When asked who Nkunku could replace in Chelsea’s side, Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “I’d fear for Kai Havertz because he still hasn’t ‘made it’ at Chelsea yet and we need to see much more quality and consistency from him.”
