3 players Frank Lampard must sign this January
January transfer window is fast approaching for Chelsea
However, Chelsea sit eighth in the Premier League. This is by no means disastrous at this early stage of the season, but Frank Lampard will be hoping for more in the second half of the season. Luckily, the January transfer window is just a couple of weeks away, so here are three players the English manager should look into signing.
DECLAN RICE: Of course, this deal looks to be the most likely. After Chelsea focused their efforts elsewhere in the summer, Declan Rice has been waiting on a move across London ever since. Do not be fooled though, as the young England international has only been improving in the first half of this season with West Ham United.
Football London report that Chelsea are being tipped to finally sign the versatile defender this January. So much so, the outlet is already predicting which shirt number he will wear.
DAVID ALABA: This one will be a much, much cheaper option than Declan Rice. David Alaba is out of contract at the end of this season, therefore, he is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs that take his fancy this January. This could also mean, though, that Bayern Munich will be more open to selling him at a cut-price deal, since it doesn’t look likely that he will agree to a new contract.
According to the Express, it is Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain that will compete for his signature. Therefore, there are some strong contenders for the Blues to fight off, but I’m certain if they can present the right intention, Alaba will favour a move to London.
SEBASTIAN WALUKIEWICZ: As the last summer transfer window was one for Chelsea to splash the cash they had accumulated from their transfer ban, this January is one to be more prudent in their approach. Do not get me wrong, Chelsea are a wealthy club, but they should look to be smart with who they choose to sign as it should benefit their future, rather than aiming for big names.
I mean, names don’t come quite as “big” as Sebastian Walukiewicz. This is who Chelsea favour a move for, according to the Mirror. The Poland international is thought to be the long-term successor to Thiago Silva, whom Chelsea were wary of his age when they signed him from Paris Saint-Germain. This January would be the perfect time to sign him from Cagliari, as it would allow the defender to have time to play alongside Thiago Silva and learn from the legend in his position.
