£50 million rated defender ‘would be very good at Chelsea’ as we approach January window

Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu would be “very good at Chelsea”, claims Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Frank Lampard made some serious changes to the squad over the transfer window and was backed by Owner Roman Abamovich with a big amount that allowed him to improve the side both defensively and in the attacking sense.

Edouard Mendy has been a brilliant signing, Thiago Silva has added leadership to the defence, while Ben Chilwell has already made that left-back area his own at the club, but there is still along way to go before they have the squad to win the title back.

Hasselbaink has been encouraged by the progress made at an ambitious Premier League outfit, but believes they could get even stronger by investing in the right areas during upcoming markets, and believes Soyuncu would be a good signing. Soyuncu has become one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League over the last few seasons and his performances has led to alot of rumours that Liverpool and Barcelona are ready to make a move in the coming transfer windows.

The former Blues striker told Ladbrokes on the need to find further reinforcements at the back, with there options to explore at Napoli, Leicester and Inter: “A lot of people are talking about Kalidou Koulibaly but he’s 29 years old and would be very expensive.

“I actually quite like the Leicester defender, Caglar Soyuncu. I think he’d be very good at Chelsea.

“Also the defender at Inter, Milan Skriniar – everybody is talking about him, another very good player.

“So there are players out there, but it’s such a difficult position to fill at the moment.”

Chelsea have won their last five Premier League games and are looking alot more defensively solid than last season, but Silva will not be around for a long time, so adding another defender to the squad would not be a bad move to make.

We have already seen the kind of impact injuries have on the big sides this season, depth is needed.
