£76.5m target who Lampard ‘loves’ could arrive at Stamford Bridge, as 26-goals Premier league star tipped to make stunning move to Chelsea
According to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown, Chelsea target Raheem Sterling would ‘score goals’ for the club should he make a shock switch from Manchester City.
However, The 27-year-old has been linked with an exit from the Etihad Stadium after falling down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order in recent times and could arrive in west London over the summer.
According to The Telegraph, talks over Sterling’s future were put on hold until the end of the season, and he is expected to decide his next steps during a well-earned holiday following England’s upcoming fixtures.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea and European champions Real Madrid are ‘monitoring’ the immensely talented star’s situation.
Both clubs are believed to be in the market for additional firepower this summer and view Sterling as a potential target given his ongoing contract dispute.
When asked if a return to London could be an appealing prospect for Sterling, Brown disclosed how he ‘still has connections’ in the capital and that a move to Chelsea would contain an element of ‘spice’.
He told GiveMeSport: “I think he still has connections in that part of the world.
“He’d be going to a club that he knows can compete, and there would be an added kind of spice element for him in that they’d be direct competitors to City, where things have gone a little bit sour for him at times this season.
“I don’t think Chelsea particularly play in a way that suits him necessarily, but he’s a good enough player to adapt. I think he’d score goals for them.”
Since swapping Liverpool for City back in 2015, Sterling, who is valued at £76.5m by Transfermarkt, has racked up 226 goal contributions in 339 appearances across all competitions.
With an impressive trophy haul including four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five League Cups, there is little doubt that Sterling would be a welcome addition to Thomas Tuchel’s ranks.
26-goals Premier league star tipped to make stunning move to Chelsea
According to latest reports, Jermaine Jenas has told BBC Sport that England and Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane could sign for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea during this summer’s transfer window.
The former Spurs midfielder has said that if head coach Antonio Conte leaves the Lilywhites, then the club’s prized asset could part company with his side as well.
The Londoners are aiming to finish in the Champions League zone of the Premier League table this term.
Jermaine believes that although the board will not want to sell him to the Blues, the number nine may not have any other variant.
He said: “I would go as far as saying that losing Conte would be forcing Kane’s hand into making a decision he might not want to make.
“By that, I mean going to a club that Spurs really don’t want him to go to – or that he probably wouldn’t want to join – just for the opportunity of winning a trophy. Somewhere like Chelsea, for example.
“You could understand Kane wanting to leave anyway if the club were not bringing in better players and kept changing managers every two minutes.”
