Frank Lampard has given up on record signing, Kepa Arrizibalaga, chosing to drop him against Burnley last week for a 38-year-old Willy Caballero.

Kepa’s future at West London might be close to being over after a string of errors this season.

However, Lampard is due to receive over £150m to spend in the consecutive transfer window and he could easily use a small part of it on Onana. The problems is Tottenham are also interested in the 23-year-old.

Onana has been in terrific form this season. He signed with Ajax in 2015 and has built up an impressive resume of 72 cleansheets in 171 appearances.

He helped the Dutch outfit reach the Champions League semi-finals last season, attracting offers from various clubs. Of course, his former side, Barcelona are interested in bringing him back to the Champ Nou but Onana prefers a Premier League switch.

Chelsea have also been linked to the likes of Nick Pope from Burnley and LOSC Lille’s Mike Maignan.

This is adding to the pressure on Kepa Arrizibalaga, who will be hoping to return for the crucial tie against Manchester United next. Reports suggest, Onana could be signed for anywhere close to £50m.
