This Chelsea player could return better than ever after 18 months

We’ve already written about former Chelsea defender Gary Chivers’ appreciation for Billy Gilmour in his quotes on Goal.com today, but if anything his words on Ruben Loftus-Cheek were even more gushing.

The Chivers went off on a description of RLC’s qualities that really made us miss football, and the hunky midfielder, even more.

“He is clever on the ball, quick feet and he is as strong as an ox at holding it up,” Chivers enthused.

“He gives the midfield and defence support by not giving it away. You just want him to have four or five months clear of injuries so his career can progress rapidly again,” he continued hopefully. That’s the one good thing we can say about this pig pause on football – when we’re back up and running, Loftus-Cheek will hopefully be fully healed and ready to go.

It will be well over a year since his injury by the time he gets back on the pitch, and we can expect a long period of getting him back to match sharpness.

Then again, by the time we get to September or whenever football restarts, that will be the case for almost every player. As much as it’s a shame he didn’t quite get back on the pitch this season, maybe 12 months off will prove to be a blessing long term.

Once he’s shaken the rust off, he’ll be as fresh as anyone.
