Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has explained how God helped him perform a U-turn over his Chelsea future.

However, The French World Cup winner came close to quitting the club for Inter Milan in January after deciding that he was not happy with the game time he had been receiving in the early stages of the season.

Tammy Abraham is the clubs number one striker and until his injury, was playing the majority of the games under Frank Lampard. But since we did not sell Giroud in the winter window, it was expected that he would leave in the summer.

However, he shocked many fans just last week and penned a year-long extension to remain at Stamford Bridge, meaning that he will not be departing the club until next summer, unless an offer comes in that he simply cannot refuse before then.

And he has opened up and claimed that he believed that God wanted him to stay , Speaking to the club’s website, Giroud said: “I very nearly left the club but I really think that God wanted me to stay at Chelsea. “I like it here. I want to keep winning trophies and I want to continue to show the manager that he can count on me.

“Plus, with the whole coronavirus lockdown situation, I didn’t really feel comfortable with the idea of moving abroad and uprooting my family. “I think a lot about our quality of life and we have a great setup here. I think a lot about my family now.”

There has been alot said about Giroud and the fact that he is now staying at a club that he was keen to leave, but at the end of the day, he is a good player to have in the side and it was a very smart move from the club to keep hold of the Frenchman.
