Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored twice as Chelsea thrashed Queens Park Rangers 7-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in preparation for our visit to Villa Park next Sunday.
Loftus-Cheek admitted after his brilliant performance against QPR that he was excited to be back after over a year out due to injury.
Loftus-Cheek said: “Last time I played at the Bridge was over a year ago. Feels good to be back.”
Meanwhile, England boss Gareth Southgate has admitted that there was no way Loftus-Cheek would have gotten into the squad for the European Championship previously billed for this summer but believes the midfielder could be ready for the tournament which has now been shifted to 2021.
“On moments of fate things do turn,” the manager told the Evening Standard.
“I was talking with Ruben Loftus-Cheek a few days ago, he’s been out for a year. No way would he have got back for a tournament like that.
“Who knows what the next 12 months might look like for him and other young players who might not have played in the Premier League yet, who might emerge in certain positions to provide competition for places.”
